KGO-TV 7
San Francisco
ABC affiliate KGO-TV 7 is best remembered for pioneering the "Happy News" format in the '70s, a decade in which not much else distinguished them from the other network affiliates.
For movie fans, KGO-TV was known for its afternoon schedule, from the early '60s The Big Show - which devoted Tuesdays to Chillers From Science Fiction - to The 3:30 Movie, which ran into the late '80s if not beyond.
When the early '70s all-night movie host boom hit, KGO-TV was airing nothing but snow in the wee hours. What a surprise, then, to find that they had pioneered all-night movies in the mid-60s with a host named Gil Hile.
