ABC affiliate KGO-TV 7 is best remembered for pioneering the "Happy News" format in the '70s, a decade in which not much else distinguished them from the other network affiliates.
For movie fans, KGO-TV was known for its afternoon schedule, from the early '60s The Big Show - which devoted Tuesdays to Chillers From Science Fiction - to The 3:30 Movie, which ran into the late '80s if not beyond.
Briefly around the same time as Chillers From Science Fiction, KGO ran the same film package in double bills on Saturday nights under the name World's Greatest Chillers.
When the early '70s all-night movie host boom hit, KGO-TV was airing nothing but snow in the wee hours. What a surprise, then, to find that they had pioneered all-night movies in the mid-60s with a host named Gil Hile.
