KTXL-TV 40
Sacramento
Sacramento's KTXL-TV 40 has always resembled San Francisco's KTVU 2 in many ways. Both stations were high-profile independents who in the '70s and '80s relied heavily on movies for their identity, and in the 90s became Fox affiliates.
In the '70s, KTXL-TV and KTVU both ran mid-evening movies, both had local wrestling shows, both filled the late afternoons with a variety of solid kids' programming. The stations even shared a horror host - Sacramento resident Bob Wilkins - although his KTXL show had an edge in that it aired more obscure European horror films.
KTXL-TV differed from KTVU in one major way, in that it committed early to all-night movies, and maintained the commitment until at least the late '90s. The wee hours on KTXL-TV belonged to Tom LaBrie of LaBrie's Waterbed Warehouse, sponsors of Night Comfort Theater.
