Movies 'Til Dawn
KGSC-TV (later KICU) 36, San Jose
1973 or 1974 - 19??
All night, Monday - Saturday
After J. Brown took his act to KNTV, the two MMM Carpets salesmen who played The Old Sourdough and Watchikanoka on KEMO-TV 20 took over the KGSC-TV all-night slot.
At first, they appeared as The Old Sourdough and Watchikanoka, but soon abandoned the makeup and took the names Race Street and Bascom Avenue. The comedy was less daring than their KEMO-TV days, but still funny.
At some point, the guy who had played The Old Sourdough left, and Watchikanoka, AKA Gary Ferry, hosted Movies 'til Dawn alone as "Ga3ry (the 3 is silent)" until at least 1989, and possibly into the 90s. The comedy was even lower key than the Race Street / Bascom Avenue version, but Gary seemed like a decent guy, and his segments were always entertaining.
Local musical talent, and people plugging charity and cultural events appeared on the show.
The movie packages on Movies 'til Dawn were as good as any.
My 1989 tape of Friday Night Fright has a plug for Movies 'til Dawn during a break, so the show lasted at least that long. It is likely that Movies 'til Dawn was the longest running all-night programming in the Bay Area, and may have run longer than Night Comfort Theater on Sacramento's KTXL-TV 40.
