Lights Out

KOVR 13, Sacramento
Late 1963 - 1964
Late Saturday Nights

Around the time that KGO ran World's Greatest Chillers on late Saturday nights, KOVR 13 in Sacramento was advertising a show called Lights Out.

As with KGO's show, Lights Out was almost certainly host-free. It is interesting that KOVR chose to advertise it at all. It leads me to wonder how programmers saw the late night hours in those days. Did they hope for a vast untapped market of insomniacs? All through the 60s, the TV Guide listings show these tentative attempts at late-night or all-night broadcasting. It took the eventual success of UHF in the early 70s to make 24 hour local broadcasting viable.

There is an image here you can't see. Too bad for you.

Sadly, none of the films in these ads and listings for Lights Out are available on DVD. Write your congressperson!
