Staggering under the load of two successful horror shows in different markets, plus his job as Captain Cosmic, Wilkins left Creature Features in 1979.
Perry Martin again:
I always had the feeling that once Creature Features debuted, Bob favored it over his KTXL show, which suffered as a result. In the end, the overworked host wearied of both shows -- and you could see the handwriting on the wall. Wilkins' energy picked up on his final KTVU night, like a kid leaving school for summer vacation, when he turned over the show to John Stanley.
Local movie buff, journalist and filmmaker John Stanley hosted the show for 5 more years, bringing a different tone and attitude to the job.
Wilkins, meanwhile, remained at KTXL-TV for several more years.
GODZILLA VS. THE THING and GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER are both available from Sony / Columbia Tristar under their original titles, GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA and GODZILLA VS. HEDORAH, respectively. John Frankenheimer's deliriously paranoid 60s downer, SECONDS has been issued on DVD by Paramount. William Castle's PSYCHO-esque delight, HOMICIDAL is another treat from Sony / Columbia Tristar.
