Night Comfort Theater
KTXL-TV 40, Sacramento
mid/late '70s (?) - mid/late '80s (?)
All night, 7 days a week (?)
Tom LaBrie of LaBrie's Waterbed Warehouse hosted this no-pressure all-nighter.
Tom had glasses and a moustache, and a very laid-back manner quite conducive to sleep. Imagine Ned Flanders on quaaludes. "Relax, watch the movie, and if you're ever in the market for a waterbed..."
If memory serves, Tom's segments were generic, repeated over and over as the months wore on, and infrequently updated. I don't recall Tom ever mentioning the names of the films, even at the head of the show, but it's possible he did and I missed them, as most of my late-night viewing at that time was consumed in channel surfing. Anyone else have any clearer memories of this?
KTXL-TV was at the time promoting itself as a movie channel. The packages were excellent, and the commercial breaks infrequent.
